If you’re looking for polished, industry-approved, auto-tuned pop, you’re in the wrong place. But if you want raw, unapologetic, in-your-face punk rock with enough attitude to offend an entire stadium of boomers, welcome to Sarah Herrera’s world. The 25-year-old Bronx native isn’t here to make friends—she’s here to make music that punches you in the face, makes you laugh, and then leaves you questioning your life choices.
As the bassist and vocalist for The Tommy Lasorda Experience, and a solo artist in her own right, Sarah Herrera has built a reputation for crafting brutally honest, wildly offensive, and undeniably addictive punk anthems. With influences ranging from Dance Hall Crashers to Overkill and a songwriting process that involves getting high and letting the ideas flow, her music is anything but predictable.
With their latest album, “A Giant Pinball Going Down The Road”, The Tommy Lasorda Experience continues their tradition of reckless, rebellious, and often hilarious punk rock storytelling.
The New Album: ‘A Giant Pinball Going Down The Road’
This album was almost called “I Like To Drink And Drive Because I Want To Be A Giant Pinball Going Down The Road”, but even Sarah figured Spotify might not approve of that. So, they shortened the title—but don’t worry, the full name is alive and well as track #2.
What’s Inside This Chaos?
If you think Sarah Herrera holds back, you haven’t been paying attention. This album covers everything from feminism, the pressures of fame, and coca leaves, to the absolute hatred of Jay Leno. There’s even a track, “Time To Throw In The Towel”, that’s just a collection of the worst hate comments they’ve received online, stitched together into a song. Iconic.
Other highlights include:
- “Noir” – The first chapter of Sarah’s upcoming Raymond Chandler-inspired detective novel, in song form.
- “Route 17 Terrordrive” – A punk rock tribute to the chaos of Upstate New York’s most infamous highway.
- “That’s It, Everybody Out Of The Fucking Pool” – A song so dedicated to the sport of pool, her label had to sit her down and tell her to chill with the billiards references.
- “Die Die My Friend” (feat. B-Stylez) – The final track, featuring a mystery artist with a voice Sarah would “literally kill her entire family for”.
Oh, and if you’re worried about the offensiveness level, Sarah has already provided a partial list of people who will hate this album, which includes everyone from Jay Leno to the DEA, Latin females, and Aerosmith.
The Creative Process of Sarah Herrera: “I Just Sit There, Get High, and See What Happens”
Most musicians will tell you about their meticulous writing process, their struggles with inspiration, and their artistic discipline. Sarah Herrera? Not so much.
“There’s no real process. I just sit there, get high, and see what comes into my head. Usually, it’s pretty good. Often, it’s garbage.”
For the first two years of the band’s existence, they cranked out around 75-80 songs, but never had the chance to record them. Now, thanks to an, uh, “arrangement” with the owner of Village Studios, they’ve got all the studio time they need. (Don’t ask questions.)
Influences: From Ashlee Simpson to Prison Showers
Sarah Herrera’s musical tastes are just as unpredictable as her music. While she hates the rise of what she calls “strip club rap”, she listens to everything—from Tomorrow’s Dream and Chaka (which she describes as the musical equivalent of getting assaulted in a prison shower), to Sha Na Na and The Interrupters.
Her stage persona? Inspired by Ashlee Simpson’s legendary SNL lip-syncing disaster. (Yes, seriously.)
Challenges: Substance Abuse, Denial, and Winging It
Sarah Herrera doesn’t sugarcoat anything, especially when it comes to her struggles. Substance abuse? Yeah, that’s been an issue. How does she deal with it?
“The time-honored technique of complete denial.”
She doesn’t know how long she’ll last in this business, or on this planet, but for now, she’s going to keep making music, getting kicked out of bars, and living life on her own terms.
The Moment of Realization: Seeing Herself on a Bar TV (Before Getting Kicked Out, Again)
One of Sarah’s most surreal moments came when she was drinking at a bar in Brooklyn (before they threw her out) and saw her own music video playing on a giant plasma screen TV.
“There’s 75 people in the bar watching me on this big screen, and I’m sitting right next to them. I didn’t know how to feel. I got thrown out shortly after, which is par for the course, but for that moment, I was on top of the world.”
Motivation: Rent is Due on the First of the Month
While Sarah Herrera claims paying bills is her primary motivation, she’s also fueled by a deep love for music and the thrill of releasing new songs. Few things compare to the excitement of dropping a new track and knowing fans around the world are hearing it for the first time, just like she is.
One of their biggest songs, “This Is My Jam!”, became a cult favorite, with fans literally yelling the title every time they heard it.
The Message: Question Everything (And Play More Pool)
Sarah Herrera’s music isn’t just about shock value—it carries a message:
“Question authority. Think for yourself. No hierarchy or system of power is self-justifying. And if something requires force, it’s probably not a good idea.”
Oh, and one more thing: she really, really loves pool. (Like, a concerning amount.)
In fact, her hands aren’t covered in callouses from playing bass—they’re from shooting pool. She plays hours a day, mostly 9-ball, because 8-ball messes with her game, and straight pool makes no sense.
She’s even beaten some of the best players in The Bronx.
Coming up, The Tommy Lasorda Experience is working on releasing music from B-Stylez, an insanely talented mystery artist (who, according to Sarah, has more talent in his penis than she has in her entire body).
The band’s new album is set to hit all streaming services soon, and Sarah has no plans of slowing down—unless, of course, her lifestyle finally catches up with her.
